Effords to register Knossos on the UNESCO
A new file will reportedly be prepared, which will include the whole Minoan Civilization monuments, namely not only Knosos, but also Festos, Zakros and the archaeological site in Malia.
“It is a fact that no historical or physical monument on Crete is registered on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage monuments list. And that is especially unfortunate, because the unique Minoan civilization and the archaeological site in Knossos in particular, are deprived from the recognition they deserve and that is due to certain procedures in shaping the surrounding place that remains neglected,” explained TEE/TAK (Technical Chamber of Hellas / Department of Eastern Crete) President Petros Iniotakis.
“It’s been a constant request by UNESCO that the existing problems be dealt with, according to the operational instructions the organization has issued, in order to promote the inclusion of Knossos,”
